The last-mile of a Carrier’s network presents both challenge and opportunity. By enabling Carriers to fully leverage their existing copper infrastructure to deliver enhanced services alongside traditional services while reducing operating expenses, Hatteras Networks solutions address a key pain point within the Carrier network. With Hatteras Networks solutions installed, Carriers can increase the market opportunity for high-speed Ethernet services to business and institutional customers by ten fold based on the current penetration of fiber optics—an attractive value proposition in any market environment. In addition to providing immediate revenue from Metro Ethernet customers (over existing copper facilities), Hatteras solutions are deployed for improving resiliency and delivering significantly higher bandwidth required for Mobile Wireless Backhaul, DSLAM Backhaul and Mobile Wireless Backhaul applications.

Hatteras has three primary solutions:

• Ethernet-over-Copper (g.shdsl/2baseTL) - this is basically Ethernet on bonded dry copper. We can bond up to 32 pairs and depending on the distance, we can get 15M on each pair...so you could theoretically do almost half a gig on copper with this solution. We have already deployed some 100+ Mbps links.
• Ethernet-over-TDM – this is basically Ethernet over bonded T1’s and E1’s as well as DS3.
• Psuedowire+ or PWE3-Plus (circuit emulation) - we have a technology that allows us to send native Ethernet and native TDM across the same bonded pipe, essentially TDM over Ethernet. The TDM retains all the characteristics of a T1 (delay, jitter, timing), and is especially critical for Mobile Backhaul requirements.

We have 4 primary applications:

• Business Services – i.e., last mile connection to offices typically providing 10M+ Ethernet services where there is not fiber. Ethernet over Fiber is a future application for Hatteras.
• Mobile Backhaul – i.e., last mile connection to cell towers, typically providing up to 100 Mbps services carrying both Ethernet AND TDM.
• DSLAM backhaul – where there is no fiber.
• In-building – i.e., where you have fiber to the building, but copper up the risers, use us to obtain high bandwidths to offices or residences.
