Robert Gourley
Vice President of Systems Engineering & Customer Support
Robert is responsible for the sales support and customer support function for Hatteras Networks. He currently manages the field systems engineering function that supports the Hatteras sales effort as well as the post sales customer support function.
Previously, Robert was the Senior Director of Systems Engineering at Polaris Networks. Prior to that, he was with WorldCom for 13 years holding a variety of senior managment positions in the areas of network planning, service provisioning and engineering.
In late 1990, Robert originated the idea of public frame relay networking and developed the world’s first public frame relay network which was announced by WorldCom (WilTel) on March 25, 1991. For his pioneering work in frame relay networking, Dr. Gourley was presented the 1997 Global Technology Award for “Founding Public Frame Relay” by the International Communications Association.
Robert is also a founding member of the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) and served on its first board of directors. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University.
