Hatteras Networks' HN4000 Virtual Node (VN) consists of up to five HN4000s (supporting 200 2BASE-TL pairs), redundantly connected using a dedicated ring-based stacking interface to create a Virtual Node (VN) that enables carriers to incrementally add service capacity – new elements can be hot-inserted into an operational stack, with no effect on existing services. The HN4000VN implements a distributed cross-box bonding mechanism that frees the carrier from inventory and planning worries typically associated with multi-pair systems – any pair can be aggregated with any other pair, anywhere across multiple HN4000s in the VN.
The fully-stacked HN4000VN supports all of the functionality as the HN4000. The HN4000VN delivers 1-45 Mbps of symmetrical Ethernet service over 1 to 8 pairs of existing last-mile copper utilizing standards-based 2BASE-TL technology - effectively and efficiently bridging the existing T1 – T3 service gap and economic disparity. High-margin Ethernet services can now be delivered over any voice-grade copper at full carrier serving area (CSA) distances and beyond.
The HN4000VN platform is fully compatible with the Hatteras Networks' HN400 series of cost-effective customer-demarcation devices. The connection between an HN4000VN and an HN400 CP device can consist of from 1-to-8 copper pairs, bonded into a single 2BASE-TL broadband connection.
